Window hinge repairs
uPVC casement windows usually open on friction hinges fitted at the top and bottom of the sash. These hinges hold the window in position and carry its weight. Over time they can wear, bend or seize.
Signs of a failing hinge include a window that drops when opened, drags on the frame, will not stay open or will not close flush. Replacing the hinges and adjusting the sash usually restores smooth operation.
Window lock and handle repairs
Most uPVC windows lock using a mechanism inside the sash operated by the handle. If the handle is loose, will not turn, or turns without locking, the handle, the mechanism or the alignment of the sash may be at fault.
Finding which part is the cause is the important step. Replacing a handle when the real issue is a dropped sash only hides the problem for a short time.
Door lock repairs
Many uPVC and composite doors use a multi-point lock, where lifting the handle engages several locking points. If you have to lift hard, push the door or slam it to lock, the door may have dropped or the keeps may be out of line.
Continuing to force it puts strain on the gearbox inside the lock, which can fail and leave the door stuck. Dealing with it early is usually simpler and cheaper.
Door handles and letterboxes
Door handles take a lot of use and can become loose, droop or snap. Letterboxes can break, stick open or let draughts through.
Both are straightforward to replace, and getting the right fit means the door looks tidy and works as it should afterwards.
Misted glass and general faults
Repairs also cover misted glass units, where the seal between the panes has failed, and general window and door faults such as sashes that will not close, worn seals and parts that have come loose.
If you are not sure what is wrong, describe it or send a photo, and David will tell you whether it sounds like a repair or something more.
